Pannar’s western maize hybrid trials tour in April

The maize hybrid market is constantly evolving and improving and Pannar's pipeline is full of new candidates.

Pannar's team of managers, agronomists and breeders recently completed a maize trial tour in the western production area. The visit was conducted under the guidance of Corné van der Westhuizen, Product Agronomist for the western production region. During the tour, potential new Pannar hybrids were studied, evaluated and compared with existing stalwarts under diverse production environments and production practices. The aim is to identify hybrids with better yield potential and agronomic characteristics. The ratio of the grain mass produced per mm of water is one of the strongest traits that determine selection.

Pipeline products are then assessed in Pannar's P3 (Pannar Preferred Products) trial series under the umbrella of the Panagri™ research program. This forms the cornerstone of our product development process, and these statistical strip trials are used to assess new pipeline products at the farm level. The P3 trial results function as a final fire test before the large-scale launch of the new products, thereby ensuring their success.

In addition to the P3 statistical trials, approximately twenty product placement trials are planted in various locations. Grant Pringle, Pannar's Chief Agronomist, shares that the disparate data is centralised in the Panagri™ programme where Pannar's advisors can easily access it. The data is utilised to furnish individual farmers with highly precise Pannar product recommendations tailored to their specific production conditions, along with detailed guidance on how to manage them effectively. This comprehensive support enables farmers to optimise their production potential and enhance profitability.
